Frenemies by Alexa Young

This summer I read Frenemies by Alexa Young. This realistic fiction book is about two girls--Halley and Avalon--who learn that a best friend is always there for you. Halley and Avalon are the fashion police of the school; they even write their own blog about the ins and outs of fashion. They were best friends until their groups of friends started to differ. Halley started to hang out with Sophie--an unfashionable teen--while Avalon started to hang with Brianna, the head cheerleader--and one of the most popular girls-- in the grade. When the girls' friends started to affect their friendship, they started to break away from each other and eventually, fight. It's not until they start posting mean things about each other on their blog when they realize it's hard to fight with your best friend, someone who knows all of your secrets.
This book was very unique. At the end of each chapter, the author would show you the fashion blog of the week. It was interesting to see how at first the girls used the blog to write about fashion, and then abused the blog to write mean comments about each other. I also thought it was fun to read because along the way, Young made up words like snarkalicious which meant fabulous.
This book was told in third person omniscient so as you read it, you see what both characters think throughout the book. Also, Halley and Avalon were foil characters which helps you see how people can be both positive and negative. It also made the book more exciting to read. Overall, I think the book was good. I would definitely recommend it to people who enjoy reading realistic fiction books. Although in the beginning it was a little slow, it had a shocking ending.
