In the book The Lightning Thief , the author Rick Riordan tells a story about a boy who is the son Poseidon and he was accused of stealing Zeus's lighting bolt. Percy was accused of this because Zeus and Poseidon don’t like each other even though they are brothers. So Zeus believes that Poseidon told Percy to take the lightening bolt. Percy and his friend Anne Beth have to travel around the world to find the lighting bolt. But if Percy does not find the lighting before the clock hits midnight, the Gods are going to start a war and it will wreak havoc on the world.

In this story the author uses a few effective literary styles such as mood/ tone, point of view, dialogue, and characterization. The author uses these writing styles to make the reader fell like he is in the story and that he can feel and the action like he was on the battlefield looking right at the action. Some of the highlights in the story were when Percy and Anne Beth find out that it was their friend who stole the lighting bolt.
The foil characters in this story are Percy Jackson and Hermes' son Luke because they do not believe in the same thing. Luke believes that he has to get revenge on Zeus the god of all gods because he banned all god from having any interaction with their children because it will turn the gods into humans. But Percy does not believe in the same thing. Percy thinks that it is not his father’s fault that he can not see him. But his father still talks to him. the message the author is trying to send to the reader is. That revenage is not the best wasy to go. Do not dwell in the past.
My overall opinion of this book was that it was a very interesting book to read. I also had liked the book because it was very action packed. In my opinion I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to feel like they are in the story and not just reading it.
