Green Rider By Kristen Britain

The fantasy novel that I read over the summer was Green Rider by Kristen Britian. In it, Karigan (the protagonist) is confronted by a wide verity of challenges, both internal and external. One of the internal conflicts that persist throughout the story is that she is the daughter of a wealthy merchant, but also a green rider. As she can not be both, she becomes increasingly conflicted as the novel progresses. An external conflict that Karigan is faced by is that a man in a dark cloak is hunting her as she attempts to reach the king. The reason why he and many other people are hunting her is that she is carrying an important message that could reveal all of their schemes to the king.
The plot however, would not have been close to as entrancing as it was without Kristen Britiain’s use of many literary devices and the unique writing style. One of the many literary devices that the she used was foreshadowing. She used foreshadowing in the very beginning of the novel to foreshadow the destruction of The Wall. This wall was special because it protected all of the humans outside of it from the forces of evil that were contained inside of it. The author’s writing style was very unique because of the way she utilized third person omniscient. She used it to demonstrate what the other characters were thinking about so as to explain some of their more confusing or strange actions.
My overall opinion of this great novel is that it would be a good fit for anyone who enjoys fast paced action and suspense in a very unique fantasy world. So, if you’re looking for a fantasy novel packed with adventure, Green Rider by Kristen Britian is a very good book for you.
